Stocking loans are financed agreements made between the car dealer and an interested finance company.
Stocking loans may vary from one company to another but their purpose is to provide cars (Stock) to dealerships on a credit basis. A finance company will fund a group of cars and permit a car dealership to sell on their behalf. Once vehicles are sold, the dealership settles the finance outstanding with a view to purchasing another vehicle.
If your car certificate displays ‘Stocking Loan’ finance we recommend taking these steps:
- Contact the interested finance company using the information provided in your CarVeto report.
- Confirm the finance company have a financial interest in the vehicle.
- Obtain all information relating to the settlement of the finance should you buy the car
- Insist on a settlement letter prior to buying the car
These steps ensure you will remain safe and legal.
Yes. It is illegal to buy or sell a car with finance outstanding from a car finance company as the car belongs wholly or partly to the lending company.
A bank loan is not secured against the vehicle and is, therefore, a different type of agreement that will generally not hold liability towards the car.
